CIRCUS Magazine November 26, 1976 NewYes LP From Switzerland Their summer tour a huge success (reaching more than 1.2 million people), Yes celebrated by going into the recording studio in Montreux, Switzerland to lay down tracks for the first new Yes group album in nearly two years. As they entered the studio the first week of October, they met Emerson, Lake and Palmer, who were putting the finishing touches on their own long-awaited LP. The new Yes LP will contain six or seven songs, to which Chris Squire, Pat Moraz, Jon Anderson, Alan White and Steve Howe will all contribute. "There won't be any 'concept' stuff on this album," says Chris Squire. "It should sound more like the early Yes compositions, particularly the songs on _Fragile_." The recording sessions should take no more than four weeks, since most of the music was already written by the time the tour ended. The release date? Atlantic Records is hoping for December, but figures that the disc will surely be available by late Janu- ary, 1977. This is the tenth group LP for Yes. The group, which was founded in 1969, has gone through a num- ber of personnel changes; the only original members left today are singer/songwriter Jon Anderson and Chris Squire. Pat Moraz is the third keyboard man the group has had. Beyond this new LP (untitled as we went to press), there's been talk of a new live Yes album. There's good reason for the talk: during the three- month long summer tour, the group was accompanied by a crew that both recorded and filmed a number of the shows. In fact, there is conjecture that they may be thinking about putting out a full-length fea- ture film (not simply a tour movie). In any case, while in the Montreux studio, the group will be mix- ing the summer recordings.
